There is / There are 

There is  a book on the table

We use there is and there are to say that something exists.

There is a man in the room 

The word there should no be taken literally. This must be understood simply as it exists.

There is a book on the table 

There are books on the table 

We use there is + singular and there are + plural. 

There is not anyone in the room 

There ins't anyone in the room 

Netative form is used with the not particle. 

We can use this construction in  the past tense. To do this , simply put the verb to be (is, are) in the past tense (was, were)

There was a book on the table 

There were books on the table 

In the future - There will be 

There will be a book on the table
