The expression be going to allows us to express an idea in the near future. Here is a table of how it is formed:
How do we use going to?
1. be going to for an intention:
I am going to visit my parents
He is going to be a teacher
Are you going to sleep?
2. In the past:
In the past tense means that the action did not happen.
I was going to invite you to the cinema, but you were busy.
They were going to get married.
3. going to for prediction:
We often use going to , to make a prediction about he future . Our prediction is based on present evidence.
It' s going to be cold tomorrow.
He is going to be famous one day.
4. Order:
The be going to construction ca be used to espress an orden or a strict prohibition.
You are not going to say that!
You are going to do your homework!
5. to go and to come:
After the construction to be going to, you cannot use the verbs to go and to come:
Wrong!
I'm going to go to Paris
Right!
I'm going to Paris
6. be gonna:
Sometines when we speak quickly, GOING TO sounds like GONNA. While it is grammatically incorrect, it is used a lot in very informal English.
going to = gonna
I'm gonna leave soon
He is not gonna do anything
